🌱 Pitch & Conditions
Bay Oval is historically a batting paradise, but with a slight tinge of grass in the surface in October it typically offers something for the seamers up front. The square boundaries are among the shortest in NZ domestic cricket, so expect the mid-overs to accelerate quickly once wrists are in.
Weather forecast at the time of writing: partly cloudy, 15°C evening temperature, winds 15 km/h south-westerly. No rain expected.
Average 1st innings score here (last 10 T20Is): 171. Chasing team wins: 7 of 10.

Key Battles
- Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Trent Boult — the series duel. Boult’s inswinger has removed Jaiswal twice in 11 balls faced; Jaiswal’s counter is the ramp over slips.
- Finn Allen vs Jasprit Bumrah (powerplay) — Allen has struck Bumrah at a strike rate of 198 in short samples. Can Bumrah shut him down in the first six?
- Mitchell Santner vs Suryakumar Yadav — Suryakumar’s only identified minor-weakness. Santner has dismissed him three times across formats.

Prediction
On a chase-friendly surface, we fancy whoever wins the toss to bowl first. Edge of the vote: India by 4 wickets, with Suryakumar Yadav the match-winner. If New Zealand bat first, Finn Allen going big in the powerplay is the biggest variable.
